Grafton Bridge

Here is my first real post on a look I have photographed on the mean streets of Auckland city-since I've been back that is.
As I am getting older I am realising that you're only young once, so may as well dress as out there as I want too while i still can!

Why so serious?

Hawks by Luckless

About two weeks ago I styled a music video for the New Zealand band Luckless. I was hired by the indie production company Little White Pictures, to create a melancholic, innocent look.  Which wasn't too much of a stretch for me as if I'm not decked out in grunge threads I can be seen dressing like a 12 year old school boy.

It was also fairly lucky because I had just been interning at Lonely Hearts all that week so got to borrow some pretty fine dresses!

It was interesting, because I have done my share of editorial shoots now, but had never worked on a music video so I was pretty excited to be a part of it.

I think the final video turned out rather beautiful! What do you think?  xx R

Real World vs Reality

I have been rather shocking at posting since I have been back in the land of the long white cloud (New Zealand or 'Nu Zeelaund' as the rest of the world seems to think we pronounce it) so I figured it was probably time for a catch up.

I have been back for just over a month and have been trying my hardest to hit the ground running so to speak and not hit the ground SPLAT.

I did a week long internship with a major NZ designer, which was cool I guess, but I did end up unpicking clothing for hours on end. I know this is what one expects from interning at a workroom, but seriously? at 26? I somehow feel like I should be further along in the rat race.

I have also made a bit of a transformation in the way I look. I had a wee skype with a friend and she commented I looked a bit like a prom queen. Which is not an ideal statement to hear seeing as I would like to be considered to somewhat rep this look:

The reason being that as a journalist (no actually, I write from some websites and am ever-so-occasionally published in a magazine or two) that I am reviewing a eyelash and hair extension salon- so they gave me hair and eye lash extensions so I could write about them. (Duh).

But now I look something like this:

Image 1: tumblr, Image 2: google.

Juuuuust loling wit 'cha.
I actually look more like this:
I will reveal my eyelashes soon, for now this is all I have.

Anywho, stay tuned to my NZ saga... Will I find a job?
..... Will my extensions fall out and leave me completely hairless
                                                              like I have Alopecia??
......Will the vivid come off my fingers????
Find out next time on Sans Pareil!! *Cue end credits*

QOP

I'm still not over my love of floral prints - especially because they go with pretty much everything. So easy to quickly throw together an outfit and have it look like you actually spent more than 2 minutes on it (I am the antithesis of a morning person, sigh) and plus it's girly. What more could/would you want?

Unfortunately, it's already too cold for bare legs - every winter, I swear I buy more pairs of stockings than I need but I can never find them again the year after. It's either me being super disorganised or my wardrobe swallowing up bits and bobs because it's too full... which comes down to me being super disorganised ha! Am totally excited to wear more beanies and scarves, and layers and layers!

DIY Baybay.

Righto, here is a quckie with a way to sprose up a shirt.
Like yours truly, you may get sick of the stuff that makes up your wardrobe rather quickly.
I also love making things contrast, or layering things that may not go together. I.e- a pretty dress that has been studded.

So I took a denim button up shity I have and added a little texture to it. Here is what I did:

1. I went onto ebay and got a little buy-crazy with studs (so, so many to chose from!)
Oh the glory of studs!

2. I then simply studded the tips of the collar. I love small detail like this, and with a necklace = super Kawaii!

And now you get an amazing out come like this! And you're done. 2 steps! Wow, even Haeme could make that! xx R

QOP

Now that Robecca has made the move back to Auckland from Melbourne, hopefully these outfit posts will be a lot more frequent! It's definitely the beginning of autumn here, a bit nippy, windy, and grey, so I'm starting to shuffle through all my flimsy summer cotton dresses to try to dig out the wintery fabrics... and found my velvet leggings and jacket - is double velvet allowed?

What is Seapunk?

They say Punk is dead and Urban Outfitters killed it.

That said, there is a new sub genre emerging from the remains of Grunge-punk, which goes by the name "Seapunk". It is hard to say where exactly it came from as it started on the Internet; but the clues seem to trace back to a DJ named Lil Interent in Brooklyn, NYC... most street fashion does trace back to NYC so I would say it's a safe bet (Seattle may have given birth to grunge-punk but New York made it cool).

Now you're probably wondering what in hell is Seapunk exactly and how is it different from normal punk. Well (and I am not joking, I did mention this was a sub genre; like MICRO sub) it is quite literally punk with a nautical theme.

That's right, so think the Japanese Kawaii (super cute) thing mixed up with the bad ass, shock of punk.

The last few images are all taken from Zombell, so go check them out!
So if you really want to be up with the trends, then it's time to dye your hair a paintbox colour, get as many clothes from 1995 as you can - ESPECIALLY if they have surf logos on them - and stop washing (can't look like Kurt Cobain if you wash now, can you?).

Musically, my picks are Zombell and Grimes. If you go on the Zombell facebook page (which is where my link leads) you can get a free stream to their album, which is actually pretty damn rad.

 Music video for Grimes' Oblivion.

And there you go, you are now ready to become a SEAPUNK with moi! (Yussssss.)

Like any fashionesta, I too want to be apart of this painfully Kawaii new craze, so here is my stab at it:

Look how nautical-punk I am!
  • Green/blue mermaid hair - yes!
  • 1995 rave sunnies - yes!
  • Black lip stick - yes!
  • Bindie shit on my face- oh god yes!!!
Hmmmmm only problem is that I like to wash and I don't smoke. Damn, I was nearly hip there for a second. Guess I won't be invited to any garage house raves this weekend. Oh well. Guess I'll just have to try harder when Slimepunk trickles down to the masses.
